This beautiful mural is part of an impressive action plan led by one of our project teams in northeast Colombia, which aims to conserve 16 threatened amphibian species (42 indirectly) and their habitats 🐸 💚
The mural was painted at a public school located in a tropical dry forest zone in the border area between Colombia and Venezuela, in Villa del Rosario, where the team has recorded over 15 of the amphibian species they are aiming to protect.
It was created through a community participation process involving local teachers, students, and a local artist who guided the project, and is one of many that the team will create in various areas where their project operates.
Team leader Aldemar Acevedo said: "The reception from the community (parents, children, teachers) has been overwhelmingly positive. They were amazed to learn about the species that coexist in their area but had never seen before. We also conducted workshops and activities to foster biodiversity appreciation through photography and artistic expression."
Since 2010, CLP has supported the team's efforts to fill a huge gap in knowledge about amphibian ecology, diversity, and threats in northeast Colombia, with one priority being to involve and educate local communities.
